Who is Bundaleer ?
Bundaleer is one of the farms started by Reginald Tubby when he returned from World War II to settle into farming in the grain and sheep producing area of Morawa due east of Geraldton in Western Australia.  Ian, Cameron Tubby and their families are  3rd and 4th generation farmers. The Tubby families have farmed the area since 1911 when pioneer farmer John W Tubby settled in the area.
We are currently running a commercial flock of approx 5000 Damara and Wiltidam cross ewes. To complement our commercial ewes we have three breeds of stud sheep.  Our farm has been running cleanskin easycare sheep (mini cattle) since 1998. Since we have moved on from the hassles of shearing, the dags, the maggots, and the associated chemicals, we have developed a real passion for cleanskin easy care sheep and their obvious advantages. This enthusiasm is also firmly based in the knowledge that these sheep play an invaluable role in our mixed farming system and that the world doesn't  really need the meager 1% to 3%  of fibre that we contribute to the world textile market. Whilst the world can take or leave our wool they will always need quality red meat.
Aims and Objectives
  • To continue to develop and stabilize the Australian Wiltidam maternal breed.  The breed has been developed to offer Australia. sheep producers an additional cleanskin easy care sheep breed that may be the all purpose maternal sheep breed of choice for a large area of Australia.
  • To supply quality, performance and disease tested stud breeding animals from our Wiltidam and Damara flock.
  • To ensure clients are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the various cleanskin breeds available, and have sheep available for inspection for potential buyers at any time.
  • To provide Lambplan performance figures and disease free certificates, and replace any stock that are not up to buyers expectations.
  • To support the very good work that the Cleanskin Sheep of Australia committee, based at the Adelaide show grounds, are doing. This organization was the logical next step for cleanskin sheep producers to take, and will result in forming a solid base for the future sheep industry of Australia. The committee needs the support of all producers of these sheep no matter what breed they have decided to run with. With ideas from our lateral thinking growers we can  promote the various breeds, as well as put money back in producers pockets by developing better markets for the meat and in particular the quality skins.

My personal support and passion for this rapidly growing industry does not stop with CSA, I am always happy to talk to producers on a one to one basis about issues they have with these type of sheep. I have been a grain and sheep producer for over 43 years, including running a reasonable size flock of cleanskin sheep since 1997. These sheep enabled us to extend our sheep meat production, which was financially very helpful during many drought years with very poor grain returns. I am sure that some of the many things I have learned from my years of farming, ( many learned the hard way !! ), could be a help to some sheep producers.

Cleanskin Easycare Sheep Australia

Cleanskin Easy care sheep continue to become well established throughout  Australia and the rest of the world with numbers growing every year. The wool industry continues to be  in crisis, with prices received being based on synthetic material identical to wool which is manufactured for approx. 350 cents/kg.  The cleanskin breeds are low cost to produce and are the obvious choice for organic production, not needing mulesing or exposure to any chemicals. The hardiness, fertility and market acceptance of these sheep has maintained profitability for many sheep producers. The over the top reaction to these sheep when they were first introduced has become more rational and educated, as many producers make the change to the breeds of the future.  All Bundaleer sheep have the cleanskin easy care features and in addition are early maturing, large framed, polled sheep which breed profitable all year round. The markets for cleanskin sheep are very good, with Damara cross sheep being sought after by the Muslim countries, and Wiltidam cross sheep being suitable for prime lamb and the live export markets.  The nett return per hectare for these sheep has always been the same or better than wool sheep with less work and hassles.  Ian and Cameron Tubby always welcome any feed back regarding our sheep, or the sheep industry and invite you to use our comment section on the contact page. We always take on board good sound constructive criticism and conversely would love to hear from you if you think we may have got something right!

"Bundaleer" commends the efforts of the people behind the setting up of the organisation  "Cleanskin Sheep Australia " This is something that has been long overdue and we hope that in the future it will develop throughout Australia to be bigger than any of its individual people to represent the interest of all involved in this rapidly growing industry.
